Watkins Game of The Week
Week 5 Good Evening Friends of The Alliance,
I have had some severe technical difficulties that haven’t allowed me to produce the last two games of the week. Because of that, I am going to send you an abbreviated version of the past two games attended and send one out the next two consecutive days. I have received countless inquiries so your patience and interest is greatly appreciated.
Watkins Game of the Week 5 took me on my annual pilgrimage Louisiana to see another game of the week in LSU (Devin White) in his game against Alabama. These two teams are considered to be the top two teams every year in the power conference SEC. Devin entered LSU as one of the top running backs and linebackers in the nation. LSU decided to cultivate his linebacker skills. Running a 4.5 second 40 yard dash at 265 pounds they knew what they had in raw physical ability. Last year was a tremendous coming out party for him leading the SEC in tackles as a sophomore. A tremendous fete performing in that fashion in the nation’s top college football conference. He was on everyone’s radar coming into this season as clearly the best linebacker in college football. This season hasn’t been a disappointment. Devin is on the Butkus Award Watch list as the top linebacker. Dynamite Devin is mean, lean and all over the field. Dropping in coverage or making an impactful tackle he is actually performing better than last year. His supporting cast on defense is relatively average so he carries the weight of the defense every game. He is a picture of perfection as a defensive player. As a junior, I can’t see any reason he would not be a very high first round draft pick in the upcoming draft. No decision has been made the world now knows the Devin White we have always known on the field. With all of this fanfare he continues to tackle his class work carrying 3.4 GPA in Business Management.
This was a tough game for the LSU faithful. Devin had to carry out a suspension for targeting and wasn’t able to hit the field until the second half. By the time Devin got in there, Alabama had set the tone and controlled the game. LSU was playing catch up and since Devin doesn’t play offense there wasn’t much he do to impact the outcome. I guarantee he will be playing on Sundays this year or next. We spent time together with his mother, grandmother and many other family members. Despite the Cajun food out-performing the game experience it was awesome to see the family. His mother especially Coesha White sends her regards.
