MANAGEMENT TEAM
Gary Sailes, Ph.D., Is an Associate Professor in the Department of
Kinesiology and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Afro American and
Diaspora Studies at Indiana University. He also serves as a consultant to
the commercial sports industry in the area of Athlete Development (NCAA,
NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA, ATP). Dr. Sailes’ research interests are Race,
Socialization and Social Stratification in Intercollegiate and Professional
Athletics. His research has been published extensively and he has served as
a consultant to numerous documentaries including the NBC documentary “The
Black Athlete: Fact or Fiction.” Dr. Sailes lectures around the country on
university campuses and at scholarly symposia on the experiences of the
African American athlete. He moderated two Congressional hearings on the
abuses of college athletics which negatively impacted African American
athletes, at the International Olympic Congress in Tokyo, Japan and at the
Drake Group Symposium on the African American Athlete.. His book “African
Americans In Sport: Contemporary Themes” has been adopted by numerous
universities in the United States and abroad. His current work, “Black
Gladiators: The Honest Truth About The So-Called Dominance Of The African
American Athlete” is under contract with Kendall/Hunt Publishers and is
scheduled to be released in 2008. Dr. Sailes is a distinguished scholar, a
member of the 100 Black Men of America, and mentor to a group of 20 African
American boys at Francis Bellamy Elementary School #102 in his home city of
Indianapolis. Dr. Sailes is married to Dr. JaDora Sailes, an Assistant
Professor in the College of Education at Indiana University. They have two
sons Grant (9) and William (5). They attend Light of the World Christian
Church.
